Mount Desert Island is a place that many call home. This island wraps its arms around you, soothing you with the sound of ocean waves rolling over cobbles and a salty, pine-scented breeze. Life slows down.

However, there is a serious threat facing the island, and the situation is getting worse.

Many of those who work here year-round, who make up—and contribute to—the communities of MDI, cannot afford to live on the island.

MDI is facing an acute housing crisis, and Island House Trust can prevent MDI from becoming a hollowed out ‘shell’ community by providing sustainable year-round housing solutions.
